Aloft Hotel Tempe
The Aloft Hotel in Tempe, Arizona has earned LEED certification, making it the first LEED certified hotel in Tempe. Located conveniently within walking distance to the main Arizona State University campus and Sun Devil Stadium, as well as in close proximity to top golf courses and corporate offices, this four-story hotel has been equipped with features to help minimize its impact on the environment.
The building’s exterior walls consist of Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) with R-13 batt insulation and the roof consists of rigid insulation to bring the overall thermal rating to R-25. Water saving low flow shower heads are utilized in the guestrooms to reduce water consumption and water heating by over 300,000 gallons and nearly 2,000 therms.
High efficiency split-system heat pumps were installed to provide space heating and cooling in the common areas. Common area units are equipped with high efficiency cooling systems. Additionally, the Aloft Hotel has incorporated a room occupancy control system in the guestrooms which will turn the HVAC controls off in a guestroom until the guest checks in at the front desk which further contribute to saving energy.
The overall energy performance is expected to be of these energy efficient features, this building has achieved over 20% energy cost savings over ASHRAE 90.1-2004 standards. These savings are equivalent to 25 room rentals per year. In addition to performing energy modeling for LEED certification, Quest Energy Group was responsible for building commissioning.
