Chandler City Hall

Once an agricultural ranch town in the Arizona desert, today Chandler is a thriving community with multiple high-tech companies and nearly 250,000 residents. The city envisioned their new city hall as a modern complex that would serve as a gathering destination for the citizens of this forward-thinking community, without abandoning its rich history.

The new City hall complex consists of council chambers, administrative offices, a public television studio and a 330-space parking structure.

Chandler redeveloped an existing urban site to promote density, pedestrian connections, and provide an example for future development. Located over two city blocks, the facility is oriented on the site to maximize shading and breezeways within the open space. The multi-story office tower uses 35% less energy than a similar new building and 80% of regularly occupied spaces are day-lit. Creative water solutions respond to the desert region and resulted in an overall potable water savings of 92%. The interior features underfloor air distribution, individual control of lighting, and a flexible, open office environment to improve indoor air quality and optimize comfort for occupants. The project is seeking LEED-NC Gold certification.
