Drury Inn & Suites Flagstaff
The Drury Inn & Suites in Flagstaff has earned LEED Silver certification, the first of many such ratings to come as the company has made a commitment to bring all new build hotels up to a minimum of LEED Silver ratings. Located conveniently close to Sedona and the Grand Canyon, this six-story hotel has been equipped with features to help minimize its impact on the beautiful natural surroundings.
The building’s exterior walls consist of CMU wall construction and the roof consists of foam insulation to bring the overall thermal rating to R-25.
Being closely situated next to Northern Arizona University, the Drury Inn takes advantage of using water from the chilled water loop on campus eliminating the need for chillers. Two high efficiency boilers with a thermal efficiency of 90% provide space heating to the building. A makeup air unit (MAU) supplies outside air to each guestroom of the hotel. This unit employs an energy recovery wheel that uses exhaust air to pre-heat or pre-cool the incoming stream of outside air reducing the load seen by the heating and cooling coils.
Additionally, this Inn has incorporated a high efficiency laundry system using a higher efficiency boiler, low temperature wash, and heat recovery and water reclaim which reduces water usage by approximately 12%. A solar hot water heater is used to supplement pool and spa heating and help provide domestic hot water; this solar-heated water will provide for nearly one-third of the total need.
Through the careful planning of these energy efficient features, this building has a 32.7% energy cost savings over ASHRAE standards.
