Hawaii Community College
The University of Hawaii on the island of Oahu includes seven community college campuses offering liberal arts and sciences. Johnson Controls, Inc (JCI) recommended energy conservation measures (ECM’s) to improve operation and reliability of the facilities while potentially reducing annual energy costs. To help determine the reduction in energy use for each ECM, Quest partnered with JCI to create a detailed computer model of each campus using the eQUEST building simulation software. Quest’s scope of work included forty-six buildings across four of the campuses covering over 1 million square feet.
Measures analyzed include an interior and exterior lighting retrofit, HVAC controls, HVAC equipment replacement, and several central plant measures including combining two chilled water plants on the Windward campus into one central plant with an upgraded chiller. Overall, the modeled buildings have the potential to save 27% of annual utility costs.
